Last Rites Held for Kenneth Carroll
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 25 at the Nevada Methodist church for Kenneth Carroll of Collins who died November 22. The Rev. O. E. Cooley of Council Bluffs, former Nevada pastor, was the clergyman in charge.
Fred McClain, soloist sang "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Hills", accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Norman Dobson.
Flowers were cared for by Mrs. J. C. Christy and Mrs. Roy Torry. Casket bearers were Stanley Byal, Denver Byal, James Hanson, Hollis Hanson, Joe Leonard and Fred Kimberly.
Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.
Obituary
Kenneth Carroll, son of Jacob and Margaret Carroll, was born December 16, 1898 in Maryville, Tennessee. He attended elementary school in Tennessee and at the age of 16 came to Iowa where he was employed as a farmhand in Story county.
On July 24, 1918 Kenneth was united in marriage with Rosa Marie Mansfield. To this union were born five children. The family farmed in Hardin county until 1930 when they returned to Story county to farm until moving to Jasper county in 1945.
In January of 1939 Kenneth accepted Christ and was baptized and became a member of the Nevada Methodist church. While in the Nevada area he served on the rural school board and was active in 4-H activities.
He was in good health until early in 1953 and was confined to his home from July 1, 1953. The married children returned home and everything possible was done for his comfort. Many friends and relatives visited and corresponded serving to brighten and cheer his few remaining months. He died on November 22, 1953 at the age of 55 years, 11 months and six days.
He leaves to mourn his passing widow, Rosa Marit Carroll; four daughters and one son; (Margaret) Mrs. C. E. Lackey of Bakersfield, Calif.; (Hazel) Mrs. L. J. Gowdy of Los Angeles, Calif.; (Katherine) Mrs. Wayne Huebner of Nevada; Kenneth H., Jr., of Collins and Phyllis Jean at home. Two sisters, Alice and Eliza preceded him in death. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Jesse Donovan and a brother, John, both of Hampton, five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
People from out of town attending were from Tama, Hampton, Marshalltown, Eldora, Bakersfield, Calif., Santa Ana, Calif., Maxwell, Nevada, Collns, Alden and Clinton.
