Funeral Rites Held For Gladys I. Smart
Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys I. Smart of Ames, were held at the Stevens-Ross Memorial Chapel in Ames, Friday, December 6th at 1:30 p. m. with the Rev. Beals of the First Methodist Church officiating.
There was recorded organ music.
The casket bearers were David Shockley, Dave Kepley, Jud Thompson, Bill Faust, Ed Riley, and Gene Wierson.
Interment was in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Obituary
Gladys I. Smart was born in Nevada, Iowa on May 15, 1904 and died at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa, on Dec. 4, 1963, after an illness of four months.
Mrs. Smart was the daughter of Frederick J. and Nellie R. Shalley and a life time resident of Story County. She attended the Nevada Schools, graduating in the year of 1922. She also attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was married on Dec. 25th, 1925 to Aubrey C. Smart of Ames. There were no children born to this union.
For a few years Mrs. Smart was a saleslady for Ringheims store in Nevada, later being employed for a number of years by the Fair Store in Ames. She left there to go to Younkers Store where she had been employed for approximately the last twenty years as manager of the Drapery and Linens Dept.
Mrs. Smart was a member of the First Methodist Church in Ames.
Survivors are her sisters, Leota Emerson, Ames, Marie Carstens, Nevada, Ilo Shalley, Nevada, her nieces, Wilma Emerson, Ames, Dolores Emerson McFadden, Ames, and a grand niece, Sharon Lynn McFadden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Leal, and a nephew Richard B. Emerson.
