Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
For Doris Richardson, Sunday was always a special day for the weekly family gathering. So, it was no surprise that she parted this life on a Sunday, September 16, surrounded by her loving family at Northridge Village Health Care in Ames.
Doris Elaine Richardson was born January 16, 1931, to Claude and Edna (Sturdy) Davault in Wellsville, Kansas. She graduated from Baldwin High School in Baldwin, Kansas. On April 29, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lowell Richardson in Creston, Iowa. Doris devoted her life to unconditionally loving her family. Her kind and loving spirit touched everyone she met. Though modest and unassuming, Doris was an accomplished quilter whose quilts (and cross-stitch) were made for each person with love. Her green thumb and love for gardening and planting led her to study and become a Master Gardener. Her special touch made so many flowers bloom just like her smile. She enjoyed antiques, cooking, playing cards, and collecting teddy bears and holiday decorations. She also enjoyed cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones with her family.
Doris is survived by her husband; sons, Dan (Janet) Richardson of McCallsburg, Darrell Richardson of Ames, Tim (Deanna) Richardson of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Jody (Tim) Kelley, Andy (Amy) Richardson, Kirstin Richardson, Brad Richardson, Leita Richardson, Alicia Dollieslager; six great grandchildren; and sister Nancy (Gene) Jeter. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be 5:30 – 7:30 pm Sunday, September 23, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Graveside service will be 11:00 am Monday, September 24, at Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ames. Memorials may be addressed to the charity of your choice.
