Nara Baker Laid to Rest Monday Afternoon

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Jan. 13, at the Morfoot Funeral Home for the later N. Baker, who passed away quite suddenly Friday evening, Jan. 10, at his home southeast of Nevada.

Rev. J. D. Ransom of Central Presbyterian church who conducted the services, gave a very timely message. Leslie Henderson sang two songs, "Old Rugged Cross," and "In the Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Norman C. Dobson at the organ. The pall bearers were Randall Gross and Ray Hostetler of Colo, Roy Torry, Harvey Collins, George Taylor, and E. B. Ayers of Nevada.

Committal was in the Nevada cemetery.

Nara Baker, son of Wm. H. and Susan Warker [sic] Baker, was born Nov. 18, 1868 in Whiteside County, Illinois. He came to Story County, Iowa, with his family in 1869 and has lived in the county since that time. In 1881 the family moved to the farm southeast of Nevada which has been Mr. Baker's home ever since.

On December 24, 1901 he was united in marriage with Cordelia Davis. To this union were born four children: Esther, Mrs. Robert Taylor of Collins; Margaret, Mrs. Lester Brooks of Nevada; Harold and Beulah who have been living at home.

Mr. Baker had been in failing health for a number of years and passed away at his home January 10, 1947.

He is survived by his wife, his four children, by three grandchildren, Dorrell Taylor of Collins, Connie Jo Baker and Gary Lee Brooks of Nevada, by one sister, Mrs. Belle Fish of Los Angeles, Cal., and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. His passing will also be mourned by the many neighbors and friends whose lives through the years had come in contact with his life.

Out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Evans, Eleanor and Estelline, Mrs. R. Z. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis, Mr. Alva Pritchard, Miss Edith Pritchard, Mr. and Mrs. James Beal and Bertha Beal from Maxwell; Mrs. Bert Whtney, Wendell and Wanda Lea, Mrs. Gwendolyn Sorenson, Mrs. Eldon Freeland and Mrs. Don Elder of Cambridge; Mrs. Joe Birkestrand, Mrs. Eloise Tisdale and Mrs. Oneida Hill of Huxley; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mead of Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hostettler of Colo, Mrs. Leslie Cronk of Elkhart and Mr. Lloyd Fixh of Jamestown, N. Dak.
