Death of Sergt. Mount
MEMPHIS, TENN., July 10th, 1864.Editor Aegis:--I have to record the fall of another patriot and christian soldier, Sergeant N. A. Mount, of Co. "K." 32d Iowa, died in Washington Hospital in this city yesterday afternoon. His health first failed him on the "Sherman expedition" from Vicksburg to Meredian Miss., last Feb. caused by laying on the cold ground. His last services I believe were in the spirited action in taking Fort Durepy on Red River, La.,--declining gradually from that time until the date of his death. To day that Sergeant Mount was an active, energetic, soldier and officer is no more than can be said of scores of his fellow soldiers in the 32d. But that he was one of the best men as a Christian that I ever saw in the army or out of it is equally true. His soldierly bearing was often the subject of remarks, by officers. But he has stacked arms no more to take them, has conquered the last enemy, and rests I doubt not in Abrahams Bosom. His wife and children will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in the loss of an indulgent father and affectionate husband.
