OBITUARY.
Died, at his residence in Nevada, Story County, Iowa; November 13th, 1864, after a lingering illness, Mrs. JOHN STEPHENS, in the eighty-fifty year of his age.
The deceased was born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. From there he removed to Ohio, and from thence in 1856 came to the young State of Iowa and made his home in Nevada. At the opening of manhood he chose God for his portion, and connected himself with the Presbyterian branch of the Christian Church, in the communion of which he lived and died. And it is but a just tribute to the memory of the deceased to say that he was on upright and good men. Not a man of words and noisy profession, but a man of thought and action. His protracted illness he born with christian fortitude and a submission known only to the children of God. In sweet resignation he seemed to be waiting for the coming of his Lord, on whom he leaned as his supporter in the hour of death; and thus he met the last enemy a conquered foe, and gently fell asleep in Jesus. Mark thou the perfect man and behold the upright for the end of that man is peace.
He leaves a large family to mourn his loss, and a large number of sympathizing friends.
The funeral services were attended from the residence to the deceased on Monday, the 15th instant, at 3:30, P. M.
