Obituary for Nora E. Kinyon
Nora Kinyon, 92, of Nevada, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Bethany Manor in Story City.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 31, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 1 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Nevada.
Nora was born June 12, 1926, in Shipley, the daughter of Benjamin Andrew and Eva Elizabeth (Earl) Ackerman. She played basketball at Shipley High School, graduating in 1943 and was united in marriage to Leo Wayne Kinyon on April 24, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. Nora worked for R.H. Donnelly’s in Nevada and as a cook for Ballard Schools. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, cooking and was an avid fan of Iowa State Cyclone Basketball. Nora was especially known for her homemade noodles, fried chicken and pies. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and supporting them in all their activities.
Nora is survived by three sons: Richard (Joann) Kinyon of Ames, Ronnie (Susan) Kinyon of Ellsworth and Michael (Connie) Kinyon of Nevada; six grandchildren: Melissa Kinyon, Jessica Kinyon, Carolyn Steckelberg, Barbara Kinyon, Wayne (Dejah) Kinyon and Master Sgt. Kent Kinyon; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; her brother, Paul (Loretta) Ackerman of Grinnell; her sister, Mary (Terry) Landis of Ankeny; her brother-in-law, Larry (Lynne) Kinyon of North Carolina; and her sister-in-law, Sandra Kinyon of Boone. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters: Mary Catherine Croker, Marjorie Fox, Helen Williams and Ruth Ackerman; her brothers: Raymond, Carl and Earl Ackerman; and her grandson-in-law, Mark Steckelberg.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Bethany Life in Story City or the Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
