James (Jim) Eldon Gunnerson, 73, of Ames, passed away Aug. 16 at Bickford Senior Living in Ames. Jim was born April 5, 1945, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, to Grover and Marjorie (Wenck) Gunnerson.

Jim graduated from Aurelia High School in 1963 and served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army from 1966-1967. He had been a resident of Ames since 1973 and was an active member of the Ames Elks Lodge. Jim was retired from managerial positions.

Jim is survived by his brother, Jerry (Sandy) Gunnerson; a daughter, Sara Prehm (Robert) of Des Moines; and two sons, Jeff of Ankeny, Iowa, and Scott (Alissa Grzybowski) of Des Moines. He is also survived by one grandson, Nathan James Prehm, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents.

No services are planned, per his wishes.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
