Funeral Services for Ole O. Sharp

Huxley, Oct. 14--Funeral services for Ole O. Sharp were held Friday afternoon. there was a brief service held at 1 o'clock at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames, where Rev. Peder Buland spoke. Services were held at the Fjeldberg Lutheran church at Huxley at 2 o'clock, with Dr. J. N. Andersen in charge. The service opened with singing of the hymn "Who knows how near my life's expended?" Dr. Andersen preached in the English language taking his text form Isaiah 40:6-8. The song "Abide With Me" was sung by the choir Rev. Buland spoke in Norwegian language. His text from the 3rd verse of I Samuel 20th chapter.There were beautiful floral offerings as well as gifts of money to the missions, donated by former neighbors and friends of the deceased. Pall bearers were S. B. Nagle, Hans Larson, Gunder Rullestad, Faltin Kalsem and Ole Kalsem. Interment was in the Fjelberg cemetery.
Ole O. Sharp was born Feb. 12, 1862 in Nerstrand, Norway. His parents were Ole and Ragnild Skorpe. He came to America in 1881. In 1892 he was married to Olena Haerem. To this union six children were born. Three died in infancy. Those surviving him are Rachel (Mrs. David Pyton) and Ole of Des Moines, John of near Ames and a step-daughter Cora (Mrs. Edward Lande) of Thompson, Iowa. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren. His wife passed away in 1913. With his family he lived on a farm northwest of Huxley until 1913. Since the death of his wife he spent a number of years at Kelley and the past seven years at the home of his son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. John Sharp in Ames. Early this spring he suffered a stroke of paralysis and a second one a couple of weeks before his death, which occurred at 4 a. m. Wednesday morning Oct. 9. He reached an age of 73 years, 7 months and 27 days. There were many from a distance in attendance at the funeral.
