OBITUARY

Roland - Funeral services were held Monday afternoon last week for the late Mrs. G. Smedal long time resident of Roland, who passed away on Thursday morning June 28. She died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Highland where they have made their home the past several years.

Mrs. Smedal had been in poor health for a number of years. Private funeral services were held at the Highland home prior to the service at the church.

Otto Hanson sang two solos at the church.

The casket bearers were Atty. Carl Smedal and Olav Smedal of Ames, George Smedal of Milwaukee, Wis., Rev. Carl Randoy of Perley, Minn., Lloyd Ritland of Story City and C. O. Highland. Mesdames A. R. Erickson, Jacob Erickson and Alice Twedt had charge of the flowers.

Mrs. Agnes Henrietta Smedal daughter of the late Theodore and Elizabeth Storaker, was born at Sogne Parish, Kristiansand, Norway on September 18, 1863. She was the last of a family of four children. She was married to Golfred Smedal on April 28, 1889.

Following their marriage, they came to America, where Rev. Smedal entered the ministry in the Norwegian Lutheran church of America.

He was assistant pastor at Redway, his first charge was at Leland in Winniesheik county, where he served until 1895 when they came to Roland where he served as pastor at Bergen Lutheran church for many years.

They also lived at Pensacola, Florida, Minneapolis and Wymoing, Minn. She is survived by her husband, and four children, Attorney Carl Smedal and Olav Smedal of Ames, (Elsie) Mrs. C. O. Highland of Roland and George of Milwaukee, Wis. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

At the services Rev. Randoy spoke in behalf of the family and Dr. and Mrs. H. O. Shurson of Minneapolis brought greetings from the various boards of the Evangical Lutheran church of America. Among those from a distance were Rev. and Mrs. Carl Randay and Philip of Perley, Minn.
