Obituary
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon last week for Eli Johnson, life long resident of the Roland community, who passed away suddenly at his home here on Monday morning at nine o'clock from a heart attack.
[sic] Marshalltown sang a song at the home at 1:30 and at Bergen Lutheran church at 2:00 with the Rev. Allen Nelson in charge and burial was made in the Roland cemetery.

A prayer service was held at the house, and Otto Hanson sang "I Need Thee Every Hour" and "Den Store Hvride Flok" at the church. Mrs. Silas Wierson and Mrs. Ingram Larson had charge of the flowers.
The pall bearers were John Johnson, Christ Risdal, Jacob Risdal, Silas Strum, Paul Pederson and S. O. Berkeland.
Eli Johnson, son of the late Elias and Taaran Johnson was born on the Johnson homestead on July 18, 1875.
He was married to Magdalene Ananiason on January 4, 1908.
They lived on their farm until three years ago when they moved to their home in Roland.
He is survived by his wife and eight children, Earl of Waterloo; (Agnes) Mrs. Herbert Tauser of Whitten; (Jeanette) Mrs. Ray Watson; and (Ethyleen) Mrs. Glen Sampson, of Nevada; Ruth and Herbert at home; and Marion and Julius of Roland; one sister, Mrs. M. O. Ferkin of Nevada; and seven grandchildren.
Those from a distance were from Huxley, Thompson, Des Moines, Scarville, Lows, Zearing, Hubbard, Marshalltown, Whitten, Nevada, Story City, Radcliffe, Ames, McCallsburg, Grimes, Sheldon, Grundy Center, Colo, Geneva, and Minneapolis, Minn.
