Funeral Rites for Aged Sheldahl Merchant

Funeral services for Randolph Peterson, pioneer Sheldahl merchant, who died at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital at Des Moines, Tuesday evening, August 28th, were held last Friday afternoon from the Methodist church at Sheldahl of which he had been a faithful, long time member. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. Curt Noren. He was assisted by a former pastor, Rev. Swain of Galesburg, Illinois and Rev. Paul Berggren of Madrid.

There was a brief service at his late home at 2 o'clock. The services at the church began at 2:30 with the singing of a hymn, "Abide With Me," sung by a mixed quartet composed of Olaf Austin, Amil Chader, Mrs. Ruby Bode and Mrs. Stauffer. Miss Anna Sheldahl presided at the piano. Rev. Berggren had scripture reading. Rev. Noren read the obituary and led the audience in prayer. Mrs. Albert Bache sang a solo, "Sunrise Tomorrow," after which Rev. Swain, a former pastor and a close friend of the family, preached the sermon. In the course of his discourse he wove a beautiful wreath, extolling the life that had come to a close in the death of Mr. Peterson as he spoke of his worth in the home, the church and the community in general. The impressive service closed with a number by the quartet, which sang, "Will The Circle Be Unbroken."

The floral tributes were many and very beautiful. Among them was one of unusual size and beauty with a message of love and sympathy from a Madrid church, the one of which his brother Oscar is a member. The floral pieces were arranged by Mrs. John Graeber, Mrs. Aug. Carlson, Mrs. Lester Moore and Mrs. J. Muehlnthaler. There were also many gifts to the missions and other church activities in memory of Mr. Peterson.

The pallbearers were Cedric Anderson, P. O. Louks, Albert and John Buchs, John Boda and Chas. Klonglan. Burial was made in the Sheldahl cemetery.
