MRS. ELMER BENCE DEAD AT COLLINS
NATIVE DAUGHTER OF THAT COMMUNITY WAS VICTIM OF A STROKE
Special to the Journal.
Collins, Nov. 27--Mrs. Elmer Bence, 58, died at her home just east of Collins Tuesday evening from the effects of a paralytic stroke. She had been ill for about a week.The funeral will be held at the United Brethren church Friday afternoon at 2:00, after which interment will be in the Collins cemetery.
Mrs. Bence, who had lived in the Collins neighborhood all of her life, was born Jennie Shearer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Shearer, May 4, 1872. She grew to womanhood in that neighborhood and she was married to Elmer R. Bence December 29, 1895. One daughter, Mildred was born to them. The daughter is now Mrs. Sam Ozmun and lives in Chicago, but was called home and was with the mother at the time of her death.
She leaves besides her husband and the one daughter, her brothers, Charles Shearer of Cumberland, and E. W. Shearer of McCallsburg and one sister, Mrs. Bradford Stevens of near Collins.
Mrs. Bence had long been a member of the church and had been very active in religious matters. She was also a member of the Eastern Star order.
