Aged Woman Died At home of Daughter

Story City, Aug 6--Funeral services for Mrs. T. T. Ryen, 87, who died a the home of her daughters Mrs. A. W. Gandrup Sunday afternoon, were held there afternoon.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. John Ihle, Mrs. Casper Rimethy and Mrs. John Brown, all of Slater; and Mrs. A. W. Grandrup of Story City. Her husband and one son, Peter Ryen, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ryen was a pioneer of Palestine township, where she live for many years.

Ryen Runeral Held At Slater Wednesday

Special to the Journal.
Slater, Aug. 7--Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Ryen of Story City were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran church here, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Services were held at Story City at 1 o'clock Rev. H. J. Helmarck of Story City her pastor, had charge of the services. Many beautiful flowers were given by relatives and friends. Neighbors at Story City have a sum of money to the missions in her memory. The pall bearers were her grandsons, Edwin and Raymond Rimathe, Joseph and Amos Ihle, Willard Ryen and Truman Brown, all of Slater. Miss Rachel Estrem and Miss Josie Ryg sang "My Faith Looks Up to Thee." The duet, "Tired" was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs A. L. Peterson. Interment was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Mrs. Bertha Ryen was born at Skonevik, Norway, December 20th 1842, and came to America in 1872 at the age of 30 years. She was married to T. T. Ryen, October 30, 1875 by Rev. H. N. Wiese, at the Fjeldberg church. They lived on a farm near Slater till in 1902 when they moved to Story City. Her husband died nine years ago. Mrs. Ryen had been failing in health since December and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. W. Gandrup at Story City. She leaves to mourn her loss, four daughters, Mrs. Arthur Gandrup of Story City, Mrs. Casper Rimathe, Mrs. Tena Brown, and Mrs. John Ihle of Slater beside 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was 88 years and 7 months.
