Obituary from Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory, Ankeny, Iowa:

Claudia Elizabeth (Johnson) Goodrich, 99, died July 8, 2018, in Ames.

Claudia was born in Sioux City, on April 2, 1919, to Oscar Alphon and Claudia L (Anderson) Johnson. She was the 4th of five children and graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1937 and attended Gustavus-Adolphus College. She married Lawrence Emery Goodrich of Cleghorn on June 14, 1950. They had three children, Dennis, Luann and Karen.

Claudia was a loving wife and excellent homemaker. She cared for relatives, supported her children and husband. She enjoyed genealogy, was proud of her Swedish heritage and kept in contact with numerous extended relatives. Another point of pride was the 3/4-size cello that her father made and presented to her on Christmas, 1934. He called it, “his child of the Depression.” It was donated in 1999 to the American Shrine to Music Museum in Vermillion, South Dakota.

Claudia resided in Cleghorn until 1999 and moved to Maplewood Village in Ankeny. In 2004 she married Rev. T. C. Peterson (widower of her sister Hazel). She moved to Waterford Assisted Living in Ames in 2012.

She is survived by Dennis Goodrich (Julie Schubert) of Ames, Luann (Dennis) Wangeman of Cedar Rapids, and Karen Walters-Crammond (Ray) of Ankeny; step-children Claudia Polzin of Naples, Florida, and Mark (Dawn) Peterson of Duluth, Minnesota. Also surviving are grandchildren Jana, Andrea, Christine, Rachel, Shannon and Meagan; stepgrandchildren Tiffany, Chase and Marissa; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Bernice McIntosh, Marcus, and Pat (Dewey) Behrens, Meriden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Claudia was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Helen Johnson, Frances Rehm and Hazel Peterson, brother Lawrence O. Johnson; also by husbands Lawrence E Goodrich (1997) and Rev. T. C. Peterson (2010) and step-son Timothy Peterson (2009).

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, July 21, at noon at Collegiate United Methodist Church/Wesley Foundation, in Ames, Iowa. Burial later at Meriden Cemetery.

Donations in her name may be made to St. Croix Hospice or the American Shrine to Music Museum.
