SKULL IS CRUSHED LIKE AN EGG SHELL
Son of Nate Spencer Killed on School Grounds at Iowa Falls Yesterday
Relatives in this city received word this morning that Earl, the eight year old child of Mr. and Mrs. Nate Spencer, formerly of this city and Ames but now of Iowa Falls, had died from the effect of a crushing blow on the head by a shot put by a playmate on the school grounds yesterday afternoon. The students were practicing on the athletic field when the shot, which weighs about 12 pounds was thrown by an older student and struck the lad on the temple crushing the skull in like an egg shell. An operation was unsuccessful and the boy died within a few hours.
The school children without exception contributed to a cash fund which ill go toward the burial of the child. The parents are well known in this city, where the mother was raised. She is a daughter of Mrs. C. R. Finch, an old resident of the city. The father worked here as teamster for several years after which he went to Ames were they resided until about two years ago. The body will be brought to Nevada on the Short Line tomorrow evening and transferred to the Northwestern and taken to Ames for burial.
