From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Edith Lorraine Anderson
July 15, 1931 – April 26, 201

On April 26, 2018, Edith L. Anderson was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a two year battle with lung cancer. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel, burial will follow services in the Gilbert Cemetery.

Edith was the third of five children born to Harley and Esther (Koetz) Lehman in Winona, MN. At a young age her family moved to a farm outside of Northwood, IA where Edith graduated high school in 1949. After earning X-Ray and Clinical Technology degrees, she took a job as a Lab Technician at Boone County Hospital. While there she drew the blood of Ken Anderson. That poke led to more than a blood sample. The two were married on October 21, 1956. The couple moved to rural Gilbert and raised two children there. Later Edith would become a cook for the Gilbert School System for some 20 years.

After Ken passed away in 1995, Edith began an extensive volunteer career which earned her the title of “Unsung Hero” by the Ames Tribune. She was also chosen to represent volunteers on a United Way poster. Always a baker, Edith will be remembered by many as the Kringla Lady. A better baker than teacher, many a pupil tried to match the precision with which she made identical Kringla after Kringla but they never could match her perfection. At her peak Edith baked 120 dozen for people at Christmas time.

Edith is survived by her children, Doug (Twyla) Anderson of rural Gilbert and Sue (Curt) Carlson of rural Ames, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three siblings.
