Teresa Scallon Newburn died on March 19, 2018. She was 90.

Born November 4, 1927, in Ackley, Iowa, to Louis and Kathryn Scallon, Teresa was raised near Ackley, Iowa. Teresa graduated from Ackley High School in 1945 and Iowa State College in 1949. She met her husband Roger while in college and they were married in 1950. They raised their seven children on a farm near Eagle Grove.

Teresa worked for many years as a home economics teacher and later as a nutritionist. In 1974 she and Roger began the adventure of working overseas in a variety of countries including Tanzania, Jamaica, and Uganda. She coached women in nutrition and starting small businesses. She and Roger retired in Ames and have lived there for the past 25 years.

Teresa is survived by her children, Rebecca (Rudi) Kohl, Linda Jo (Jerome) Devlaeminck, Colleen (Mark) Stortvedt, Jeff (Sharon) Newburn, Peter (Joy) Newburn, and Chris (Amy) Newburn; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Jack, Gene, and Vince Scallon.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Scott; four grandchildren; and four siblings.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23 at the Northridge Village Dining Room in Ames, followed by a prayer and share time from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, and will be followed by a luncheon. The family will be present an hour prior to the Mass. Interment will then follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
