Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Maude Speck were held Tuesday at the Adams Funeral chapel the Rev. C. Schmidt of Stanhope officiating. Burial was in the Ames Municipal cemetery.
Mrs. Speck passed away Saturday, May 16 at her farm home north of Ames. She had been in poor health for several years following several serious operations.
She was born at Sulphur Springs, Kans., Nov. 3, 1885, daughter of William and Clara Hurlock. Her marriage to James E. Speck of Tingley took place Sept. 26, 1906. They moved to the Napier community in 1910 and in 1912 to the Walter Grove farm, their home for nearly 40 years.
To this union were born nine children, Gordon of Jewell, Mrs. Clara-May Carlson of Stratford, Mrs. Geraldine Westrum of Stratford, Mrs. Beverly Erickson of Stanhope, Mrs. Mary Ford of Humboldt, James of Ames, John of Burlington, a daughter Roberta who passed away during the flu epidemic in 1918 and a son, Walter, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1931.
She is survived by her husband, seven children, four sisters, three brothers, 23 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, two grandchildren and four brothers.
She was a kind and loving wife and mother, a devout lover of her home and dear ones. Her thoughts were always of the welfare of the members of her family.
