Beverly “Bev” Irene Burns, 66, of Ames, IA, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A visitation will be held at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010) from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow services in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Beverly was born on February 3, 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska to Millard and Irene (Gere) Burns, she grew up in Ames, graduated from Ames High school in 1970, following graduation she went on to attend Iowa State University to obtain her degree in Education with a focus on History.

Bev worked as a cashier for Warehouse Market for many years, and then as a clerk for the Ames City Employees Credit Union, most recently she was employed by Highness Allstate Insurance as a customer service representative.

Bev was a warm and caring person, she held a special place in her heart for the children in her life. She was firm in her political stance and up to date on current events. She was sharp and had a memory to envy, which she often used while assisting friends and family with any questions regarding history. She will be remembered by those who knew her for her unwavering love of friends and family.

Survivors include her brothers; John (Barbara) Burns of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Richard (Marlyn) Burns of Scotland, United Kingdom, niece; Molly (Greg) Gurnicz and their children Gabrielle and Leo, nephew; Michael Burns and his fiancé Emily Flom, and her close friends.Bev was preceded in death by her, parents.
