Robert Timmons Binkley, 82, of Ames, died of heart failure Friday, February 23, 2018 at home. He was born on August 25, 1935, in Evanston, Illinois, to John and Lorraine Binkley. He grew up in Winnetka, Illinois, and graduated from New Trier High School in 1954. Robert graduated with a BA in Business with an emphasis in Accounting in 1959 from the University of Colorado, where he met his wife. After graduating, he was drafted into the Army. After serving 2 years, he started his first job at Great Lakes Mortgage in Chicago, Illinois. He married Barbara Smith of Ames, on December 30, 1960, and they lived in Lake Forest, Illinois. He later worked at Harris Trust Savings. In 1966, they moved to Ames and Robert took a job with Jostens. Barbara passed away in 1995. Robert married Georgianna Benson of Ames, on September 6, 2002. They remained in Ames but wintered in Peoria, Arizona.

Mr. Binkley was fondly known as “Bink”. He enjoyed golf, playing cards, and getting together with friends. He was a member of the Ames Golf and Country Club and the Westbrooke Village Golf Club. He found pleasure in music of all kinds and dancing. He was an avid Iowa State University sports fan and enjoyed watching all sports on television. He loved dogs and was a bird watcher - his favorite bird was a cardinal. He was a fabulous Papa to five grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. He adored playing games with them, his favorite was hiding stuffed animals all over the house. He was a jokester and had the best one liners up until the day he passed away. Bink never met a beer he didn't like. He always had a positive attitude, even in the end, and was deeply loved and admired.

Mr. Binkley is survived by his wife, Georgia Binkley of Ames; one daughter, Kari (Lloyd) Squire and daughters, Sydney, Shelby and Sami of Castle Pines, Colorado; his daughter-in-law, Robin Binkley and children, Trevor and Tyla of Lakewood, California; his step-sons, Troy Lyscio and Scott Lyscio, both of Scottsdale, Arizona; four step-grandchildren, Reid, Nicholas, Brandon and Ciara; his sister, Susan Weinand of Peoria, Arizona; and extended families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Binkley; and his son, John Binkley, in 2016.
