Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Irma H. Elliott, age 101 of Gainesville, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018, in E.T. York Care Center.

Irma was born August 17, 1916, in Slater, Iowa. She worked for Reuben H. Donnelley Corporation doing typing from home and Hach Chemical Company as a secretary before she retired at age 67. She volunteered in public schools for over 30 years in Iowa and Florida. Her passion was teaching children how to read, and was “Volunteer of the Year” in both states. Irma was a member of First Lutheran Church of Gainesville, FL, but had previously been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames, IA, and Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, IA, where she taught confirmation classes, taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir, and was an active member of the women’s groups in both churches.

Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Elliott and brother, Richard Sydnes Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Yaney; sisters, Norma Pennington and Helen Burgan; granddaughters, Theresa Wilder and Sheryl Strickland and great grandchildren, Leigh Strickland and Tobey Wilder.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Palestine Lutheran Church of Huxley, 1375 IA-210. Burial will be at Palestine Lutheran Cemetery with her husband. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL 32606.
