Obituary for Constance Lucille Davis
Constance Lucille Davis
October 9, 1932 - January 20, 2018Constance L. Davis, 85, of Glendale, Arizona, formerly of Ames, Iowa, entered into everlasting life on January 20, 2018. Better known as Connie, Mom, or Grandma to most, she was selflessly devoted to family and faith, and her strong, independent character left no uncertainty that she was the family matriarch.
Connie was born on October 9, 1932 in Newcastle, NE to Hubert Koch and Marie Doughtery. After graduating valedictorian from high school, she went on to teach in a one-room school house in rural Nebraska. It was her brother, Bob, who first met Richard “Dick” Davis while the two were working at the stockyards and later introduced him to Connie. On June 28, 1956, Dick and Connie were united in marriage.
Moving often to accommodate Dick’s successful career as a cattle buyer, Dick and Connie lived throughout the Midwest. In addition to raising their five children, Connie was an excellent seamstress and even better cook. A plate was never left full nor a stomach hungry after her homecooked meals—no doubt having learned from her mother. Connie later worked in the family medical supply business as a medical billing specialist. Following retirement, Dick and Connie relocated to Arizona in 1997. Connie will be remembered for her gracious heart, wit, fearlessness in speaking her mind, love for sports (Nebraska football and Kansas basketball excluded), and chicken and noodles.
Connie is survived by her doting husband of 61 years, Richard “Dick” Davis, and their five children: Susan (Terry) Cross of Ames, IA, Steve (Julie) Davis of Norwalk, IA, Terry (Cindy) Davis of Peoria, AZ, Troy Davis of Phoenix, AZ, and Kevin (Amy) Davis of Glendale, AZ.
Connie was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, survivors including: Elissa (Robert) Hodges of Ankeny, IA, Christina (Skylar) Lempinen of Peoria, AZ, Ryan (Kayla) Davis of Boone, IA, Trisha (Steven) Thoma of Mason City, IA, Kara (Mark) Noble of Phoenix, AZ, Rachel (Adam) Arthur of Urbandale, IA, Kyle Davis (Chelsea Hazen, fiancé) of Abilene, TX, Abby Davis of Schofield Barracks, HI, Ross Davis of Ames, IA, Taylor Davis of Glendale, AZ, Regan Davis of Kansas City, MO, Krista Davis of Glendale, AZ, and Alexa Cross of Ames, IA. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren and her brother, Bob (Dee) Koch, of Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Ashley Davis.
A funeral of Catholic mass will be held on Wednesday, January 31st at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, 6180 W. Utopia Road, Glendale, Arizona, followed by a gravesite service and internment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Memorials may be directed in care of the family to the Heritage Arrowhead Funeral Center, 7545 W. Rose Garden Lane, Glendale, AZ 85308.
