Virgil Mead Robinson, 100 of Colo, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018, at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.

Virgil was born January 16, 1917, the son of Robert Hamilton and Alice Esther (Beckwith) Robinson. He graduated from Colo High School and was united in marriage to Ruth Irene Dickinson on November 18, 1939, in Indianola. Virgil farmed outside Colo and was affiliated with the Colo United Methodist Church. He enjoyed living in Florida, golfing and traveling. Virgil lived independently until he was 98 years old.

Virgil is survived by his sons: Jim (Sandy) Robinson of Colo and Jack (Linda) Robinson of State Center; his daughters: Linda (John) Hemping of Colo, Sue (Jay) Merryman of Panora and Virginia (Paul) Heintz of Colo; his sister, Opal Wilson of Newton; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Michael Robinson; and his siblings: Lucille Mathis, Margaret Robinson, Dorothy Horneck, Clayton Robinson, Maxine Robinson, Edna Robinson and Doyle Robinson.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 9 at the Colo United Methodist Church in Colo with The Reverend Douglas Harding officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Colo Cemetery in Colo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa River Hospice or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
