Russell Dean Keltner was born March 23, 1936 to Glen and Dorothy (Jacobs) Keltner in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from Ames High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves. He married Charlene (Johnson) in May of 1958 and they had two children, Jodie and Lance. Russ later married Karen Pike and they resided near Alden on an acreage.
Russ worked in the industrial field in the Ames area, moved to Lake Mills in 1972 and worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, and then retired from Danfoss in Ames. He also owned his own cemetery business and after retiring worked part time at night at the rest area along the interstate south of Story City.
Russ was involved in archery and target shooting and participated in the Iowa Games, where he earned several first place finishes in archery. Russ loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and looking after his chickens on his acreage.
Russ died at the age of 81 on December 7, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Russ is survived by his daughter, Jodie (Geoffrey) Anderson of Leland; his son, Lance (Angie) Keltner of Story City; four grandchildren, Garrett (Sara) Anderson of Leland, Jennifer Anderson of Forest City, Cole Keltner of Story City and Kailee Keltner of Story City; and his great-grandchildren, Jakobe, Gavin and Sydney Anderson. He is also survived by Karen’s children, Ariann (Ken) Kasper of Forest City, Abby (Rick) Folkerts of Forest City and Kenneth Pike of New Jersey, and her eight grandchildren; his sisters, Judy (Rex) Morrison of Collins and Bonnie (Jim) Hines of Batavia, Illinois; two aunts, Donna Jacobs and Wanda Rahto; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
