Fay Eugene Leggett
December 1, 1947 - August 25, 2017
ObituaryFay Eugene Leggett, age 69, of Nevada, IA, passed away at the Mosaic Group Home, Friday, August 25, 2017. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 30, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church (610 15th St, Ames, IA 50010). A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. following visitation at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday August 31, 2017 in the Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa.
Fay Eugene Leggett was born in Monticello, IA. to John (Jack) and Lola (Schlimmer) Leggett December 1, 1947. He was brought to Christ through baptism February 8, 1948.
Being born with Down's Syndrome, Fay attended a school for "trainable" children from 1959-1963. Later he attended H.A.V.E. (Hearts and Voices Endeavoring). After moving to Ames with his mother, he attended Story County Developmental Center.
In 1981 Fay moved to New Hope Village in Carroll, IA. He lived there until 1994, at which time he moved to a home operated by North Central Human Services (Krysilis) now Mosaic in Nevada, IA. He attended the vocational center where he was a paper shredder.
Fay enjoyed visits with his sister and brother-in-law Bill and Joyce Stoner, listening to country music on his records or radio, sweatshirts, his rocking chair, smiling and just being happy. He was "special" from birth, and always will be to those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sister Joyce Stoner of Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Bill Stoner, and all of his aunts and uncles. Several cousins survive him.
