Lois Imogene (Luing) Cerka, 94 of Colo, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017, at Windsor Manor in Nevada under the care of St. Croix Hospice.
Lois was born July 16, 1923, the daughter of Donald Arthur and Ethel Imogene (Dodd) Luing. She graduated from Rhodes High School in 1940 and attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with her teaching degree. On November 22, 1945, Lois was united in marriage to Elmer T. Cerka in Rhodes, Iowa. She was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church and Colo World Outlook Club.
Lois taught at country school in Rhodes and public schools in Zearing and State Center and retired in 1985 after 30 years with the Colo district. She enjoyed camping, square dancing, playing bridge, gardening, bowling and was an avid reader. Lois loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lois is survived by four sons: Paul Cerka, Fred (Dorothy) Cerka, John (Donna) Cerka and David (Victoria Nelson) Cerka; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Carole O’Leary; her sister, Donna Kathleen Beye; and her brother, Larry Luing.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 10 at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 11 at the Colo United Methodist Church in Colo with The Reverend Douglas Harding officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Colo Cemetery in Colo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Colo United Methodist Church or ALS Association.
