Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Hannah Ann (Olson) Anderson, 78, of Jewell, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames after a lengthy battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Harvest E-Free Church, Story City on Friday, August 25 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will also take place at Harvest E-Free on Thursday, August 24 from 5-7 p.m. In honoring Hannah Ann’s wishes, her body has been donated and burial of her cremains will take place at a later date.

Hannah Ann was born to Emelian (Bill) and Hattie (Henrickson) Olson on June 7, 1939 in Webster City, Iowa. She grew up on a farm outside of Jewell, was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jewell. She attended the Clear Lake #4 Country School, and graduated from Randall High School in 1957. She had a beautiful voice and sang in many school groups, contests, church choirs, weddings, funerals, etc. As her daughters grew up, the three of them sang at many mother/daughter banquets, and bridal showers. Although she was accepted to the Juilliard School of Music in New York, she chose to stay in Iowa and marry her high school sweetheart, Richard Anderson on October 4, 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jewell. Hannah Ann volunteered and served on many boards and organizations, in church, as well as the community. She was an active member of the Gideon Auxiliary and loved her time spent with the jail ministry. Her most current passion was for the women of the Butterfly Freedom House, a home for women currently released from incarceration. She found great joy in helping people in their walk with the Lord, either leading a Bible study or lending an ear and praying with or for someone.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Todd (Lynn) Anderson from Mooresville, N.C.; her daughters, Sonja (David) Fisher and Michele (Kenny) Spence, all of Story City; six grandsons, Corey (Sharon) Anderson, Christopher (Meghan) Anderson, Kyle (fiancé, Peyton) Anderson, Jacob (Danielle) Fisher, Lucas Fisher and Adam Spence; one granddaughter, Mara Spence; two great-granddaughters, Sophia Anderson and Beatrix Fisher; one great-grandson, Mason Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Sara) Anderson of Carroll and Darrell (Deb) Anderson of Gilbert; two sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Elsberry of Ames and Sylvia Anderson of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; her grandson, Ryan Spence; and one brother-in-law, DeWayne Anderson.
