From Nevada Representative February 7, 1913

Two farmers, father and son, were killed by the Northestern fast mail Thursday morning east of Marshalltown, their names being Ed. H. and Ed. M. Brown. The accident was at an open crossing in the country; but the case was one the like of which has happened repeatedly before. That is the parties waited on one side of the track until a freight train pulled by and then passed around the tail of the freight just in time to be caught by the fast train coming upon the further track. The pilot of the engine was observed still much mussed up when the train went through here; but that condition was incident not to hitting the men but the horse, which was killed also.
