OBITUARY
Mrs. Ellen M. Guthrie
Mrs. Ellen M. Guthrie, widow of the late P. J. Guthrie of this city, died July 9 at the home in this city of her daughter, Mrs. Alvin Bates. The deceased was born at Limerick, Ireland, November 20, 1833, and was at the time of her death aged 78 years, 8 months and 13 days. She grew up in Ireland and was there married November 15, 1855, to P. J. Guthrie, with whom she soon after came to America. Their home was for many years in Ogle county, Illinois, where were born their nine children, five of whom survive. They removed to Iowa in 1879 and lived at or near Nevada for the most part since. Mr. Guthrie died March of last year, and Mrs. Guthrie has not long survived him. The other three daughters were with Mrs. Bates and their mother in the latter's last illness, to wit: Mrs. H. C. Chandler of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Geo. Raine of Minneapolis and Mrs. Dan Stephens of Boynton, Okla. The funeral was conducted Thursday forenoon from the Catholic church by Father Nichols.
