OBITUARY
Death of John Vinje
John Vinje, elder son of the late D. J. Vinje, son of Mrs. Helen Vinje, died early Thursday morning at the family home in this city after a prolonged illness with tuberculosis. The deceased has been in failing health for a long time, and he returned only last week from the vicinity of Moorehead, Minn, where he has been chiefly engaged for the past ten years. He returned in very broken condition; but after his arrival he rallied some, and it was thought that he might last for some time. In the end, as is apt to be the case with such illnesses, he dropped away suddenly, and his death was something of a surprise.
John Vinje was born at Nevada October 9, 1877, and died here June 13, 1912, aged 34 years, 8 months and 4 days. Here was his home always. He attended the public schools, nearly completed the high school course, assisted in his father's law office and after he was mature looked after the family interests in the Red River Valley. These interests were considerable, and to them he gave successful attention. He was never married and his nearest surviving relatives are his mother, his sisters, Miss Nellie Vinje and C. W. Hartman, and his youngest brother Arthur. The nearest other relative on his father side is his uncle, Hon. A. J. Vinje of Wisconsin, who formerly lived at Superior in that state but has recently been transferred to Madison as a member of the supreme court of the state. John Vinje was here early in the week on his nephew's account, started home Wednesday, and being recalled by telegram, returned here this morning. Other relatives on his mother's side will doubtless be here from Marshall county for the funeral; which will be conducted from the house Saturday afternoon at two thirty o'clock.
