Dies of Apoplexy
Mrs. Julia Mulcahy, mother of C. D. Mulcahy of this city, died at her home in Colo, Iowa, at 1:30 a.m. Monday of a stoke of apoplexy which she suffered at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. With her husband Patrick she had been attending the Catholic church and while getting into the carriage to return home she was stricken. She was 62 years of age, and was the mother of a family of eleven children, all of whom are grown to manhood and womanhood except two who have preceded her in death. One thing which is believed to have been conductive to the stroke is her deep and lasting grief over the death of her son, James M., who passed away last January. He had studied for the priesthood for several years and was to have been ordained the July following his death. The grand old lady had centered her hopes upon this son whose career seemed bright and when he was called her grief knew no bounds. She could not reconcile herself to his death and gradually grew weaker from that time until her once rugged constitution was weakened by grief super induced by encroaching years. A daughter Mary died seven years ago.
All the remaining nine children will be present at the funeral services which will be held at the church in Colo on Thursday (today) conducted by her son, Father Daniel Mulcahy of Waterloo, Iowa. Requiem high mass will be said. C. D. Mulcahy came to this city three weeks ago and purchased the C. J. Weirick drug store.
