From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Phyllis Gerjets, 85, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, due to complications from a fall at home. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, IA. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be donated to a favorite charity of choosing in Phyllis' name.

Phyllis Angela Parsley was born November 19, 1931 in Holly Springs, Iowa to Frank and Kathryn Parsley. She grew up and graduated from Sloan High School. Phyllis was united in marriage to Loren Gerjets on November 2, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. Phyllis and Loren moved to Ames in 1954 and have been residents here ever since. Phyllis retired from the Central Iowa Mental Health Center after working as a secretary there for many years.

Phyllis was a member of the Ames Women's Auxiliary, Women of the Moose and First United Methodist Church. Phyllis and Loren were frequent travelers; she enjoyed a trip to Paris, and owned some vacation homes in the Lake of the Ozarks, Waterville, Minnesota and most recently Rockport, Texas where she has wintered for the past 20 years. Phyllis enjoyed going on lunch dates with her many friends groups, from the work girls and the card club ladies to her mall walking group. She also still met up with her high school friends from Sloan, IA. Phyllis was ahead of her time, her family will remember how she was always so open minded and accepting of everyone. She spent a lot of quality time making memories with her children and grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her three children: Greg (Cathy) Gerjets of Story City, IA, Cindy (Art) Fogleman of Rockport, TX and Doug (Diane) Gerjets of Roland, IA; grandchildren: Jeremy (Cindy) Gerjets, Emily (Chris) Palmer, Justin Gerjets, Matt Gerjets, Joe (Megan) Gerjets, Garry (Brandi) Gerjets, Heather Nelson, Cassandra (Dan) Lippard, Dan Gerjets, Mark Fogleman and Kyle Fogleman; 11 great-grandchildren and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and 11 siblings.
