Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Gail Phillip Johnson 92, was taken to heaven by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 28, to spend eternity with him and other Christian friends and family. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, May 31, at Crossroad Baptist Church in Ames.

Gail was born on May 28, 1925. He had two siblings and Iowa was always home. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 and after serving four years he graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1947. In November of that year he and Vivian Cogswell were married. They lived in Grundy Center for five years where they were blessed with the birth of two sons Terry and Randy. The following five years were spent in Humbolt and in July, 1958 they moved to Ames where they resided the past 59 years. During that time Gail worked as a typesetter for the Ames Tribune for 28 years, a patient attendant for 13 years at McFarland Clinic and 5 years as a volunteer at Mary Greeley Hospital.

Gail and Vivian accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior while living in Humbolt. Then in 1958 upon moving to Ames they joined Campus Baptist Church now known as Crossroad Baptist. Gail faithfully served this church as a choir member and head usher for many years. But his family would assure you that serving as a husband, father and grandfather was his first priority until the day he died.
