Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Sylvia Louise Nervig was born on May 8, 1933 to Emil and Beate (Holm) Helgeland near Slater, Iowa. She graduated from Slater High School and married Leo Nervig February 23, 1951. They farmed north of Slater until moving to Perry two and one-half years ago. She was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she participated in various ladies’ groups.

Sylvia was a good coffee drinking Norwegian, an avid reader, enjoyed attending her grandkid’s various activities, and was known for her good cooking and hosting annual Fourth of July parties.

Sylvia passed away peacefully on May 13, 2017 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry at 84 years of age.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 66 years, Leo; two daughters, Connie (Bruce) Gardner of Madrid and Kim (Jon) Peters of Perry; four grandchildren, Jared (Kellie) Gardner, Sara (Jeffery) Meadows, Kristie (Justin) Schaul and Kelsey (Scott) Hughes. Kayla and Jace Meadows, Finley and Reese Schaul, Ellie, Kilee and Ray Hughes are the great-grandchildren.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Nanci; a grandson, Ronald Bruce Gardner; and a sister, Erva Twedt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater.

Private family burial will be in the Slater Municipal Cemetery.
