Mr. James McDonald, father of Mrs. Herman Knapp and the late Mrs. Margaret Stanton of Iowa State College, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anna M. Waugh at Oxford, Nebraska, on Monday last and his funeral rites and burial were at Ames on Thursday. He was past ninety years of age. One of the adventures of his middle life was the crossing of the plains from St. Joe, Missouri to Sacramento, California, in 1850, nearly all the way on foot.
