OBITUARY
MRS. W. C. WITT
Mrs. William C. Witt at Belvidere, Illinois, sister of Mrs. J. A. King and Mrs. Ginter of Nevada, who died September 30, 1907, at Chicago and buried with many expressions of esteem and sorrow at Belvidere. The Witts a quarter century ago resided in Nevada, and of late years they have been frequent visitors here. The following obituary and tribute to the deceased are from the Republican-Northwestern of Belvidere:
"Cassandra Severns Witt was born at Piqua, Ohio, Feb. 27, 1840. She came with her parents to Belvidere and vicinity when a child and spent her childhood on Squaw Prairie. She was married to Wm. C. Witt Nov. 24, 1861, and they began their home life on the farm one file from Herbert, where they have passed their married life excepting twelve years which were spent in and near Nevada, Iowa. She united with the Presbyterian church of Belvidere in June, 1883, together with her mother and daughter. Her illness extended over a period of three years, during which time she received the most tender care and watchful medical attendance. She was taken to the Presbyterian hospital in Chicago, Sept. 20, here she had beautiful care and was under the most skilled physicians. She died Monday morning Sept. 30. There remain to mourn her departure, her husband, William C. Witt, the only child, Miss Harriet Witt, who is a teacher in Lake Forest, two sisters, Mrs. Ginter and Mrs. J. A. King of Nevada, Iowa and two brothers, A. J. Severns of Des Moines, Iowa, and P. M. Severns of Boone, Iowa.
"Mrs. Witt was held in high esteem by all who knew her and was beloved by a wide circle of friends. Of a sympathetic, earnest nature her attractive personality was infused with a certain grace of refinement which can never be forgotten by those who were privileged to know her, even slightly. Among neighbors and friends, wherever she entered the home of bereavement, her rarely sweet spirit eminently fitted her for usefulness and her ever welcome presence will be greatly missed, not alone in the home, but also in every circle in which she moved."
