Raymond “Ray” Allen Smith, 62 of Nevada, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at State Center Specialty Care in State Center.

Ray was born June 3, 1954, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Allen L. and Marvel J. (Kolb) Smith. He graduated from Wabasha High School in 1973 and was united in marriage to Linda Cochlin on October 18, 1975, in Geneva, Minnesota. Ray enlisted in the United States Army working as a maintenance supervisor and retired in 2005; after 32 years earning the rank of Master Sergeant, serving in the 394th Corps. Support Battalion. Ray then worked for Almaco in Nevada as a purchasing agent and Lowe’s in Ames in the tool department. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, working on cars and trying new restaurants with his family.

Ray is survived by his wife Linda of Nevada; his children: Nikki (Tony) Herold of Nelson, WI, Aaron (Erin) Smith of Vancouver, WA and Mitchell Smith of Nevada; three grandchildren: Zander and Rowan Herold and Adeline Smith; two sisters: Janice (Bob) Priefert of Nelson, WI and April (Bob) Fuher of Nelson, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 28, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will greet friends beginning at 4 p.m. until service time.
