Kathleen Marie Rees, 70, of Des Moines, formerly of Nevada, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Kathleen was born January 18, 1947, in Ames, the daughter of Charles M. Rees Jr. and Opal Barnes. Kathleen grew up in Nevada and in 1988 moved to Des Moines. She graduated high school and earned her Associates degree in criminal justice/constitutional law from Iowa State University and later graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree.

Kathleen worked for the IRS Treasury Department in Des Moines and earned several awards during her 15 years of employment.

Kathleen openly discussed her depression disorder and helped many other people overcome their own depression and anxiety. She provided comfort and food for several AIDS patients; and herself, survived several heart attacks, triple bypass and two bouts with cancer. Kathleen accepted Jesus Christ and was thankful for the many blessings given to her that helped her overcome any problem.

Kathleen will be remembered for her strong and independent spirit.

Kathleen is survived by several first cousins and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kathleen has been cremated and no services are planned. Cremated remains will be buried at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Center.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
