Lou Ellen Freeman, 60, of Nevada, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017, at her home in Nevada.

Lou was born May 4, 1956, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Morton and Joyce (McNutt) Freeman. She graduated from Whiting High School in 1974 and received two Bachelor’s degrees from Iowa State University in social work and family environment. Lou worked as a social worker and in-home therapist in the foster care program. She was awarded the Al Schulte Award for excellence in social work, something she was very passionate about.

Lou enjoyed crafts, flowers and gardening and animals.

Lou is survived by her sister, Barb Freeman-Metzger (Mike Heinen) of Nicolette, MN; her significant other, Gene Nelson of Des Moines; and her cousins: John (Janet) Graham of Des Moines, James Graham of Chicago, Resa (Jeff) Wiltse of Lincoln, NE and Reed (Kathy) Plate of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and cousins: Dexter Dingus and Ross Plate.

Lou has been cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
