C. F. DIFFENBACHER.

Death of a Pioneer, at Great Bend, Kansas.

Calvin F. Diffenbacher, who was one of the younger members of the well known Story county family of Diffenbachers, died recently at this home in Great Bend, Kansas. The deceased came to Story county with his father's family in 1855; but he did not remain here long; for he went back before the war to Illinois, where he enlisted in the army. After the war he remained for a time a Memphis, Tennessee; but later he removed to Kansas, where he spent the most of his life. He was active as a Democratic politician and was twice a delegate to Democratic national conventions, the occasions being the first nominations respectively of Grover Cleveland and William J. Bryan. He was a lawyer and generally successful man.
