From Nevada Representative March 25, 1907
Mrs. Carrie Tillotson the blind woman at Des Moines who a few weeks ago advertised for a husband who would "cook and split kindling wood" for her, was burned to death in her lonely home about six o'clock Saturday morning. She had refused about a hundred suitors and had arranged with the Church of Latter Day Saints of which she was a member of the exchange her little property in Des Moines for a home in the Home for the Aged at Lamoni and was to go to that city today. Men passing the house saw smoke and flame leaving from the open front door of her house, found combustibles about the kitchen ablaze and Mrs. Tillotson lying in a heap on the floor, quite dead and her clothing burned off. She had evidently been preparing her breakfast when the fire began.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased was never married. The reference to her as "Mrs. Tillotson" is a fallacy. She was the daughter of Ezra Tillotson and Sarah Thrasher.
