OBITUARY

Death of Michael Niland

Michael Niland, one of the long-time and highly respected residents of Colo, died at his home there Monday at 6:30 p. m. of cancer and complications, aged 74 years, 6 months and 11 days. The deceased was born at Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, September 29, 1823, and died as stated March 11, 1823. He was reared in the old country and emigrate to the United States in 1854, coming to Mechanicsville, in Cedar county of this state. He was there married in 1861 to Mary O'Donnell, she died July 13, 1887. Shortly after their marriage Mr. Niland and his bride removed to Story county, settling near Colo, where they spent the remainder of their days. Five children survive, John, Thomas, Mrs. John Morrel* and Miss Margaret, all of Colo, and Mrs. Dr. Glenn* of Davis, South Dakota. Mr. Niland was a man of much personal worth and of sterling character, and his death is very much regretted. His funeral will be held at St. Mary's church, Colo, Thursday forenoon by Rev. Father Nichols, and the interment will be in the Catholic cemetery at Nevada.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Mary Niland married John Morell (not Morrel) on 8 January 1901 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa. Catherine Bridget Niland married Dr. Arthur Gerald Glann (not Glenn.)
