Death of Miss Shepard.

Friday, October 12th, while preparing dinner at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. C. Brand, Miss Lou Shepard dropped dead, not having complained of being sick that morning, and she seemed to be in good health. No one was in the house at the time excepting Mr. Brand. The funeral services were held Sunday, October 14, in the Evangelical church, Rev. Bamford, assisted by Rev. Ramige, conducting the services, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Colo cemetery. Miss Shephard was born in Canada 51 years ago, leaves one brother, C. A. Shephard and one sister, Mrs. C. C. Brand of this place and one sister of Brockport, N. Y. She graduated as a trained nurse at the Boone hospital a few years ago. She was a devoted member of the United Evangelical church, and held in high esteem by all who knew her. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved relatives.

In the same issue of the newspaper:

The sudden death of Miss Louise Shepard which is noted in another column as having occurred at Colo last Friday, occasions wide regret. Miss Shepard was for some years a valued member of the force at the Eleanor Moore hospital at Boone, she being the first nurse of the institution and subsequently the first graduate of its training school for nurses. She was highly esteemed, her devotion to her work made her many friends, and a considerable number of them from Boone attended her funeral at Colo Sunday, train number 12 stopping at Colo for their special accommodation. Nevada people who occasionally met Miss Shepard were greatly interested in her, and in her death feel personal loss.
