Ruby Alice Nassen Triggs, the daughter of Harvey and Stella (Durby) Nassen, was born on March 18, 1923, near McCallsburg, Iowa. She was the eldest of five children who grew up on a farm east of Roland, Iowa. Ruby attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She worked as a clerk typist at the Ankeny Ordnance plant, at an income tax office, and as a church secretary.On August 29, 1943, she married Leon Triggs in Roland, Iowa. During the 61 years of their marriage, Ruby served alongside Leon, who was a full-time minister for Christian churches in Des Moines, Guthrie Center, Cedar Rapids, Lake City, Greenville, and as an interim pastor for other churches in northern Iowa.
In 1952, in addition to working in the ministry, the couple began farming in Clay County until they retired in 1995.
Ruby passed away at Crestview Nursing Home in West Branch, Iowa on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Paul Nassen; and a sister, Marie McClain.
She is survived by three daughters: Carol Everley and her husband, Glenn, of Lenexa, Kansas; Linda Statler of McGehee, Arkansas; and Judy Pine and her husband, Lou of West Branch, Iowa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harlan and his wife, Audrey, of Suntree, Florida; one sister, Myrtle Harper, of Story City, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
