Arden Roger Quam was born March 28, 1928 to James and Sella (Teigland) Quam in Elmore, Minnesota. Arden graduated from Randall High School in 1945 and served in the 24th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during the post-war occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1948. Arden and Judith Skaar were married February 18, 1950 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City. He farmed north of Randall until his retirement when he and Judy moved to Ames. Arden was a long-time member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames and the American Legion Post #37. After his retirement from farming, Arden worked many years as a school crossing guard and driving for the Story County Council on Aging (now HSS). Arden always enjoyed practicing with and attending all his children’s school, sports and Church events. In his later years, he especially enjoyed attending his beloved grandchildren’s Church, school and sporting activities.

Arden passed away at 88 years of age on March 13, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Arden is survived by his wife, Judy and his children, Steven (Cyndy) Quam of Urbandale, Sharon (William) Waldman of Waukee and Sandy (Neils) Johnson of Ames; nine grandchildren, Scott Quam, Seth (Amy) Quam, Shaun (Carly) Quam, Sam Quam, Erik (Brittni) Tripp, Hannah (Jeff) Aukes, Emily Tripp, Alleah (Daniel) Stafford and Tyler Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Delbert (Darlene) Quam of Story City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Rev. Ernest Quam and Luther Quam; and his sister, Lyla Hauge.
