OBITUARY

Death of Mrs. Humelbaugh

A letter just received from Dr. A. C. Humelbaugh of Los Angeles, California, announces that his mother, Mrs. H. A. Humelbaugh, passed away from her home in that city on the evening of Sunday, July 28, 1908. The letter adds further that the deceased lady had seemed exceptionally well on Saturday, but that Saturday evening she suffered an attack of heart failure, which proved fatal only twenty-four hours later. Her consciousness, however, continued to the last, together with the realization that her end was near. Her daughter, (Grace) Mrs. J. C. Dennerlen of Buffalo, New York, passed through Nevada Sunday night, hastening to the scene of death. Further notice will be given in our next issue.

OBITUARY

Sketch of Mrs. Humelbaugh

Mrs. H. A. Humelbaugh, whose death was briefly announced in these columns on Friday, was a native of Pennsylvania, and at the time of her death, which occurred in Los Angeles, June 28, 1908, she was past seventy-three years of age. She and her husband and their three young people came from Adams county, Pennsylvania, to Iowa, and lived twenty-six years in Nevada, their home place being yet known as "The Humelbaugh Place" west of the West Indian. Mr. Humelbaugh being engaged in ministerial work, the family home was for one short period with his charge at Iowa Center, and for another in the neighborhood south of Elwell and while residing in the latter place Mrs. Humelbaugh was bereaved of her eldest son, Douglas Moore, a lad of sixteen who and his sister, Grace, were children of their mother's first marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Humelbaugh removed to Los Angeles three years ago, their son, Dr. A. C. having preceded them in the location. Regard of their Iowa friends followed them and several pilgrims to the Coast have brought back reports of visits to them. Mr. Humelbaugh senior has been reported in feeble health but Mrs. Humelbaugh in seeming vigor; preparing to visit the East this summer and anticipating the construction of a new house very soon whose roof would cover the paternal household and that of the daughter, Mrs. Dennerlens, now of Buffalo, New York an arrangement which, with the Dr. Humelbaugh family in the next block would bring the good lady's dear ones close together. A single day's illness and the final change have brought the loved ones together but they miss the centralizing spirit. Their old friends sympathize with their sorrow.
