From Nevada Representative June 15, 1908

County Correspondence

AMES

The power of bad companionship is unhappily illustrated in the death of Manley Stevens, of this city, the young man who suicided in a caboose in the East Des Moines railroad yards, Saturday, the 6th. He came to Ames in 1902 a worthy lad, but as a student at I. S. C. he fell in with a rough company of students with whom he began drinking. The habit grew, with the weakening of will power which accompanies the use of alcohol he was unable to break off, and in a fit of despondency he gave up the struggle. The funeral was held in Ames Tuesday morning.
