From Nevada Representative May 8, 1908
Varnum B. Mead.
The friends in Nevada of Fred S. Mead of Arlington, Massachusetts, will learn with much regret of the death of his father, Varnum B. Mead, which occurred at Somerville, Massachusetts, on April 26. Mr. Mead was seventy-five years of age and was for all of his active life a member of the fruit and produce commission firm of A. & O. W. Mead & Co. of Boston. This is the firm with which Boardman Bros. of Nevada were closely identified for many years and which at one time or another had large sums of money invested in this part of the country. In those days Mr. O. W. Mead used to be a frequent visitor out here. Mr. Varnum B. Mead was here rarely if at all; but his name became familiar locally, and his reputation was a member of a great and successful firm was known here well. The business was in 1900 transferred to his three sons, George V., Fred S. and Adelbert F., who still conduct it.
