Death of Calvin Snyder*

Word was received here yesterday of the death of Calvin Snyder*, which occurred a few days ago at the home of a son at Spokane, Washington. The word came his sister, Mrs. Josie Carhart, who is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Pond, in the city and renewing acquaintance with old friends in the county. Mr. Snyder and Mrs. Carhart were the elder member of the D. S. Snyder family, who lived for many years on the east end of what is now the court house block. They were both reared here and were among Nevada's most active young people thirty years and more ago. Cal Snyder* married Annie Wilson who with his sister Josie, was a graduate from the Representative's composing room, and he and his sister's husband, Stephen Carhart, were associated in the grocery business in Nevada under the firm name of Carhart and Snyder, until they were cleaned out by the fire here in 1879. Then they went to Mapleton, and the members of the related families have been only very occasional visitors here in the years since. They are all well remembered, however; and the news of Mr. Snyder's death will come to his old friends with very much regret. He leaves his wife and a family of children, and was probably something over fifty-five years of age.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased was Clarence S. Snyder (not Calvin Snyder as stated), son of David S. Snyder and Thomasine Colwill. He married Anna Elizabeth Wilson on 3 February 1877 in Story County, Iowa. "Mrs. Pond" (the aunt of the deceased) was Jane "Jennie" Snyder who married (1) Alexander Findley Dinsmore/Densmore on 15 November 1871 in Story County, Iowa and after his death in 1900, married (2) Albert Columbus Pond on 10 September 1902 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
